National Book Festival

September 24, 2008

This weekend is the National Book Festival, which is a major event for me. When I think about the giant tents filled with books, authors and other book lovers, spanning the entire mall, I get a little teary. Well, maybe not, but I still can’t wait. I thought I’d post the list of authors that will be there. I promise to take lots of pictures.

Here is an article about Laura Bush and the impact she has had on literacy in the US, and her plans for after the White House. She started the National Book Festival eight years ago, and Saturday will be her last one. Regardless of how anyone feels about her husband, it is hard to deny that she has championed the importance of literacy and made serious strides to improve the disappointing literacy rates in this country.
